Poisonous Plants, Insects, and Rodents (Spring 2025)



Telecommunication workers often operate in diverse outdoor environments, ranging from urban landscapes and suburban yards to rural sites and natural terrains. This exposure increases the likelihood of encountering environmental hazards, including poisonous plants, dangerous insects, and disease-carrying rodents, which are prevalent in the upper Midwest. Because of this, telecommunication workers must develop situational awareness to identify and avoid these risks effectively.

This course is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge to:

Identify common poisonous plants, insects, and rodents in the upper Midwest
Understand the Health Risks of these hazards, from allergic reactions to life-threatening diseases.
Implement Preventive Measures using proper PPE, tools, and field protocols to avoid exposure while on the job.
Respond Appropriately in case of exposure by knowing how to administer first aid and when to seek further medical help.
