Load Securement (Spring 2025)



Public safety requires that cargo being transported on the highway system remain on or within the vehicle under all conditions that could reasonably be expected to occur in everyday driving. IAW the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.100, we will review the procedures for securing cargo, including tie-down requirements (direct and indirect), determining the number of tie-downs required, and when to re-examine and adjust cargo. We will also discuss the tie-down types, how to inspect chains and synthetic straps for damage, and when they are no longer serviceable.
